The Transfiguration of Our Lord

The observance of Transfiguration on the last Sunday before Lent is a uniquely Lutheran contribution to the Christian Church year. It was introduced to this Sunday by Johannes Bugenhagen, who was Martin Luther’s pastor and colleague. This special day commemorates the moment on the Mount of Transfiguration when three of Jesus’ disciples saw him in his divine splendor before he made his final journey to Jerusalem.

Join Us for Family Bible Hour

Family Bible Hour (Adult Bible Class, Parent Group, Sunday School) will meet this morning between services at 9:15 in the church basement.  We will begin with fellowship, devotion and sing a hymn together prior to classes.  The Adult Bible Class will continue with the Heart in Focus Bible study.  The course covers the Christian attitudes behind healthy financial decisions and shares practical advice for giving, saving, debt elimination, and other elements of a financially wise lifestyle.  The February issue of the WELS Connection will be shown at the beginning of Family Bible Hour.

Parent Group during Sunday School

The Sunday School class for parents continues today.  Moms and dads are once again invited to receive encouragement and hear strategies for bringing children to church while teaching and reinforcing the faith at home.  This group is designed especially for parents of children 8 and under, but any parent may come.  The group will meet together in the church basement for the opening of Family Bible Hour at 9:15am and then move next door to the school building for class.

Lent Begins this Week

On Wednesday, March 1 at 7:00pm, the Lenten season will get underway with our Ash Wednesday Worship Service.  Pastor Nathan Pope will be preaching.  We will also celebrate the Lord's Supper.  Join us as we begin our Lenten journey.

Come for Supper on Wednesday!

Prior to our Ash Wednesday service (March 1), a 6:00pm supper will be served in the church basement by the Joanna Mission Circle.  On their menu is:  sloppy Joes, chips, veggies, pickles and dilly beans, dessert and beverage.  Another supper, hosted by the Elizabeth Mission Circle, is planned for March 8. They will be serving:  pasta, salad, Italian bread, dessert and beverage. There will be a freewill offering for these meals.  Please sign up at the north bulletin board at the top of the stairs if you plan to attend so enough food may be prepared.

Organ Dedication Service

With the organ project nearly complete, we are looking forward to using the newly rebuilt pipe organ in worship.  You can look forward to Sunday, March 12!  That morning, we will dedicate the organ during a single worship service beginning at 9:00am.  Dr. Wayne Wagner, who has served as our organ consultant throughout the project will be our guest organist.  Also, plans are being made for a breakfast/brunch following the service with a brief program.  Because of this, there will be no Family Bible Hour that Sunday.  We look forward to Sunday, March 12 and hearing the sound of the organ again!  Please sign up at the north bulletin board if you plan to attend the brunch.  The menu consists of – egg bake, sausage, bakery, juice and coffee.

Three weeks ago the voters of First Evan and Epiphany extended a divine call to Mr. David Zuberbier who is currently serving as principal and teacher at Peace Lutheran School in Bradenton, Florida.  We have called Mr. Zuberbier to be the Dean of Students and Science Teacher at Wisconsin Lutheran School.  Please keep him and his wife, Ashley, in your prayers as he deliberates this call.
