Minor festivals

In addition to the major festivals of the church year, the Christian Church also sets aside individual days to celebrate and commemorate certain saints, angels, or events in the history of the church. We sometimes refer to these days as “minor festivals.” The intent of celebrating a minor festival is to thank God for these gifts to the Church and to follow their example.

St. James of Jerusalem  -  Learn from Jesus’ Brother

October 23 is the day set aside for St. James of Jerusalem. This James was the half-brother of Jesus. Surprisingly, he didn’t believe in Jesus at first! James became the leader of the early church in Jerusalem and was well known and respected for his wise leadership, his humility, and his encouragement toward prayer and good works. Thank God for the example of this saint! Let’s learn from James, the brother of Jesus!
